Student Body President's Welcome

Welcome, Bobcat Class of 2022, to the greatest university in the state of Texas!

Your choice to attend this extraordinary university is a life changing one and your best years are ahead of you here in San Marcos.

At Texas State University, we are a family. From the first time you walk through the quad up until you jump into the cool, beautiful San Marcos river at your graduation in four years and beyond, you have the privilege and the honor of joining nearly 40,000 other students in completing one of the most fulfilling experiences of your entire life at one of the most phenomenal schools in the nation.  Over these next four years, you will meet friends who will be with you for a lifetime. You will grow tremendously as a person. You will engage with faculty and professors who will challenge you, empower you, and inspire you to be the best, most informed version of yourself. Further, you will join a vigorous and growing network of Texas State Bobcat alumni who will be proud to see your successes as they remember fondly their own times in the great city of San Marcos.

Here at Texas State and, indeed, in San Marcos, you will have fun – you will have the best four years of your life. But it is important to remember why you came here in the first place.  Academics at Texas State University are second to none. We are an emerging research institution which is making great and incredible strides in the STEM fields all the while maintaining some of the best Geography, Business, and Musical Theater programs in the country. You are joining the Bobcat family at a monumental time in our long 118-year journey towards the summit of excellence in academia.  Now is the time to challenge your ideals and beliefs even when it may seem uncomfortable. Now is the time to expand your horizons and grow together with your fellow students. Now is the time to achieve greater things than you could ever imagine to be possible; Texas State is here to ensure that all of this comes to fruition and when you leave here, you leave here ready and able to navigate the waters of your future.

I want to further take this opportunity to encourage each and every one of you to get involved during your time at Texas State. With over 400 clubs and organization, it is easy to find a home and get involved doing something you love.  For me, getting involved on campus meant finding my friends, my passions, and improving my chance at success once I graduate.

If at any point, you feel that you could use some help – if you have any questions, comments, or concerns, Student Government is here for you.  Our primary goal and purpose is to represent you so always feel free and empowered to come by the office or give us a phone call.  We are located in the LBJ Student Center on the fourth floor office 4-5.1 or you can always give me a call at (512) 245-3465.

So I will leave you with a piece of advice from our most esteemed alumnus, the 36th President of the United States, Lyndon B. Johnson class of ’30. He said, “the noblest search is the search for excellence,”. So go out, move forward, and every day here at this great university seek excellence – pursue it vociferously and make it your own.  You will succeed surrounded by your family of fellow Bobcats here at Texas State.
