Welcome, Bobcat Class of 2020!
First I want to welcome you to your new home, Texas State University! Your choice to attend this extraordinary university is a life changing one and your best years are ahead of you.
You are beginning your journey at Texas State during its prime. Texas State has recently added new Residence Halls to our campus in support of us welcoming our largest incoming freshman class in Texas State’s history. We are currently remodeling Jones dining hall which is set to open Fall of 2016 and will include restaurant chains such as Panda Express and Dunkin’ Donuts. The LBJ Student Center will also begin the process for their expansion which will accommodate the close to 40,000 students on our campus. Texas State has also been named an Emerging Research Institution and is proud to announce the arrival of a new head coach for the Bobcat football team, Coach Withers. Not to mention, Texas State is very well known for its beautiful, one-of-a-kind campus and river.
Now I would encourage you to take the opportunity to get involved in your university. Getting involved in student organizations has countless rewards, from making new friends to growing as a leader and as an individual. The friendships we make here will last a lifetime so make the most of your bobcat experience while you can. For me, getting involved in a student organization helped me find my voice at this University as well as meet my closest friends. In addition, getting involved on campus tends to ease the transitional period between leaving home and coming to college.
Your Student Government is always happy to help you with any road bumps you may encounter. Our office is located on the fourth floor of the LBJ Student Center in Room 4-5.1. Please feel free to stop by our office and introduce yourself. The Senate meets every Monday night in the LBJ Student Center Teaching Theater at 7:00 PM. I encourage all of you to attend so you can hear about what is going on at our university and help us represent your interests to campus administration.
Remember that your academics should always remain your number one priority, and Texas State gives you many resources to make sure you do just that. Our famous alumnus, President Lyndon B. Johnson, once said, “The noblest search is the search for excellence.” Every day that you are here at Texas State pursue excellence, because there is no greater reward than that of success.
Cherish your time here at Texas State and take advantage of every opportunity that comes your way. We are excited to have you join our Bobcat family!
